I stand corrected.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; color: black;\">The tax credit is determined \u2014 not by drive-train \u2014 but by battery size. To<span> <\/span><span><span id=\"IL_AD2\" style=\"background-origin: initial !important; background-clip: initial !important; cursor: pointer !important; background-repeat: repeat !important; background-position-x: 0%; background-position-y: 50%; background-attachment: scroll; float: none;\">quote<\/span><\/span><span> <\/span>the federal legislation itself:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; color: black;\">Section 30D provides for a credit for certain new qualified plug-in electric drive motor vehicles. The credit is equal to the sum of: (1) $2,500, plus (2) for a vehicle which draws propulsion energy from a battery with at least 5 kilowatt hours of capacity, plus an additional $417, and $417 for each kilowatt hour of battery capacity in excess of 5 kilowatt hours. Under \u00a7 30D(b)(3), that portion of the credit determined by battery capacity cannot exceed $5,000. Therefore, the total amount of the credit allowed for a vehicle is limited to $7,500.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; color: black;\">Your federal government at work. At 16 kilowatt hours, the Volt\u2019s battery qualifies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; color: black;\">Which is why those wealthy California greens will get $7,500 off their new green<span> <\/span><span><span id=\"IL_AD1\" style=\"background-origin: initial !important; background-clip: initial !important; cursor: pointer !important; background-repeat: repeat !important; background-position-x: 0%; background-position-y: 50%; background-attachment: scroll; float: none;\">status<\/span><\/span><span> <\/span>symbol. And therein is the<span> <\/span><em>real<\/em><span> <\/span>reason GM badly wanted to designate the Volt an EREV (even though it really operates more like a series hybrid).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; color: black;\">\u201cThey did not want to be painted with the same brush,\u201d says Ward\u2019s auto analyst Bill Visnic. Because if Leo diCaprio wants a new green<span> <\/span>status<span> <\/span>symbol, he wants something that is \u201cdifferent\u201d than his hybrid Prius.
