This will come as no surprise to readers of this blog, as we\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hillaryspot.nationalreview.com\/planet-gore\/230665\/hybrid-sales-tank\/henry-payne\">have charted<\/a> the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/planet-gore\/242428\/car-future-suv-sales-back-50-percent-market-henry-payne\">growing rebound<\/a> of light truck sales as the U.S. economy has (albeit slowly) rebounded and gas prices remain under $3 a gallon.<\/p>\n<p>The trend comes even as Washington issued a new edict that vehicles average an absurd 62 mpg by 2025. The current absurd standard \u2014 35 mpg by 2015 \u2014 has forced manufacturers to invest billions in new small-car development.<\/p>\n<p>Today, manufacturers are in defiance of their own customers \u2014 their marketing departments churning out small-car ads touting their new green products. This puts automakers in a tough spot: Continue to make cars for the government, or listen to their customers.<\/p>\n<p>For now, manufacturers are sticking with the government, telling the\u00a0<em>Detroit News<\/em> that \u201cwith a slew of\u00a0new cars\u00a0coming out, such as the Chevrolet Cruze, the Ford Fiesta and a new\u00a0Ford Focus early\u00a0next\u00a0year, car sales are likely to outpace truck sales in the coming months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maybe.
