At midnight Friday, the last incandescent\u00a0light bulb plant\u00a0in America closed \u2014 a victim of government rules outlawing the traditional\u00a0light bulb\u00a0by 2012.<\/p>\n<p>While Democrats crow over saving hundreds of auto jobs, they have been silent on sending hundreds of bulb industry jobs to China. One by one,\u00a0GE light bulb\u00a0plants have closed down across the country this year as the company moves to production of the more expensive compact fluorescents with cheap labor overseas.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Winchester, Va. was the last to shutter, sending 200 jobs offshore.<\/p>\n<p>America\u2019s green-brainwashed MSM was largely mute on the destruction of U.S. jobs by federal edict. But NBC News \u2014 albeit in their last story of Thursday night \u2014 managed to file a report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust before midnight, GE will shut down the last incandescent\u00a0light bulb\u00a0factory in the U.S. The government has ordered that we switch over to more energy-efficient light bulbs,\u201d read anchor Brian Williams introducing the story to dispassionate correspondent Mike Taibbi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGone are the $30-an-hour jobs,\u201d reported Taibbi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoy Kirby can\u2019t quite let go,\u201d he continued turning to a whacked Winchester worker as if he had just lost his pet parakeet instead of having his livelihood taken away by federal diktat.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps Taibbi\u2019s lack of outrage was due to ignorance of basic facts. \u201cConsumers are changing their buying habits on their own,\u201d he tried to explain, claiming that compact fluorescents are now the consumer\u2019s choice of bulb.<\/p>\n<p>No, they aren\u2019t.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/webcache.googleusercontent.com\/search?q=cache:yloqnSw97mwJ:www.ehow.com\/about_6658763_philips-cfl-light-bulb.html+cfl+and+light+bulbs+and+percentage+of+market&amp;cd=6&amp;hl=en&amp;ct=clnk&amp;gl=us\">In fact,<\/a> 85 percent of light bulbs sold in America are still traditional bulbs. Because they are cheaper. Because CFLs don\u2019t last as long as advertised. And because CFLs are hard to dispose of.<\/p>\n<p>Which means consumers will be in for a rude awakening in 2012.
