The\u00a0<em>Hill<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/e2-wire\/677-e2-wire\/118183-carter-era-solar-panel-wont-return-to-white-house-roof\">reports<\/a> that \u201cthe Obama administration has rebuffed climate activist Bill McKibben\u2019s bid for re-installation of a White House solar panel put up by Carter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps this beleaguered White House said no because it can ill-afford any more comparisons to the peanut farmer\u2019s administration. More significantly, the administration told McKibben that the \u201cWhite\u00a0House roof\u00a0was not available for a gesture with very little energy-saving potential.\u201d Really? So why are we taxpayers\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/webcache.googleusercontent.com\/search?q=cache:XFV2MNbjGoYJ:www.easyecoblog.com\/140\/new-2009-solar-federal-tax-credit\/+solar+panels+and+federal+tax+credit&amp;cd=6&amp;hl=en&amp;ct=clnk&amp;gl=us\">subsidizing 30 percent<\/a> of the cost of residential solar panel installation with federal tax credits?<\/p>\n<p>Thirty years after Carter\u2019s stunt, solar is still \u201cthe energy source of the future\u201d \u2014 a shimmering mirage on the horizon. But the Obamabots have learned something from dithering ol\u2019 Jimmy: These days, if alternatives don\u2019t work, Washington\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/e2-wire\/677-e2-wire\/118273-e2-morning-roundup-renewable-power-advocates-press-lawmakers-for-mandate-epa-probes-hydraulic-fracturing-\">will mandate them<\/a> with\u00a0a national\u00a0renewable power standard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of thoughts on Greg\u2019s post below about the White House solar-panel denial.
