{"id":31975,"date":"2024-01-04T14:12:05","date_gmt":"2024-01-04T18:12:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/henrypayne.com\/?p=31975"},"modified":"2024-01-04T14:12:05","modified_gmt":"2024-01-04T18:12:05","slug":"here-are-the-2024-north-american-car-truck-and-utility-of-the-year-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/henrypayne.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/here-are-the-2024-north-american-car-truck-and-utility-of-the-year-winners","title":{"rendered":"Here are the 2024 North American Car, Truck and Utility of the Year winners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The North American Car, Truck and Utility of the Year awards kicked off the 2024 award season at M1 Concourse club Thursday with the Toyota Prius, Ford Super Duty pickup truck and Kia EV9 taking home trophies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The NACTOY awards are one of the auto industry\u2019s most prestigious, with an independent jury of 50 journalists from North America judging the results. \u201cThe jury looks for vehicles that raised the standard in their segment and are destined to be new benchmark,\u201d said Jack Nerad, vice president of NACTOY.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"gnt_em gnt_em_img\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/gcdn\/authoring\/authoring-images\/2023\/11\/16\/PDTN\/71610438007-2024-nacto-yfinalists-car.jpg?width=660&amp;height=372&amp;fit=crop&amp;format=pjpg&amp;auto=webp\" alt=\"The Toyota Prius is the North American Car of the Year award winner.\" width=\"497\" height=\"280\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"gnt_em_img_ccw gnt_em_img_ccw__cap gnt_em_img_ccw__crd\" data-c-caption=\"The Toyota Prius is the North American Car of the Year award winner.\" data-c-credit=\"Henry Payne, The Detroit News\">\n<p>The Toyota Prius is the North American Car of the Year award winner. Henry Payne Detroit News<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The Toyota Prius and Honda Accord \u2014 both previous NACTOY winners \u2014 went neck-and-neck for Car of the Year with the handsome, redesigned Prius pulling it out. The Prius was a pioneer in hybrids 25 years ago, and the Accord has followed suit by offering a hybrid powertrain as well. The third finalist was the all-electric Hyundai Ioniq 6.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\" aria-label=\"advertisement\">\n<div id=\"ad-slot-7103-mi-detroit-C1561-native-article_link-money-autos-2\" class=\"gnt_x_sl gnt_x_al\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-method=\"llx\"><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cWe are excited about the future of hybridization,\u201d said Scott Neiheisel, Toyota general manager for Midwest operations, in accepting the award. Though the turbo-4 cylinder Chevy Colorado mid-size truck was the most affordable competitor, the Ford F-250 Super Duty wowed with its customer-friendly high tech.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\" aria-label=\"advertisement\">\n<div id=\"ad-slot-7103-mi-detroit-C1561-native-article_link-money-autos-3\" class=\"gnt_x_sl gnt_x_al\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-method=\"llx\" data-x-c=\"2\"><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cThe Ford Super Duty is intended to be ultimate Built Ford Tough vehicle,\u201d said Andrew Kernahan, Super Duty chief program engineer, in accepting the NACTOY bauble.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Detroit brands dominated the truck category but were shut out of the car and SUV nominees. The finalists track industry trends as five of the nine were all-electric and two gas-electric hybrids. The Kia EV9 won the award, marking the third year in a row the Korean brand has taken the SUV of the Year honor.
