From Pontiac to Bloomfield Hills, cruisers mixed with commuter traffic as clubs set up tents, Corvette celebrated its 70th anniversary at M1 Concourse, and diehards claimed their desired parking spots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Tom Paletti, 70, of Macomb Township arrived at Woodward and Square Lake at 6 a.m. in his 421-cubic inch, V8-powered 1966 Pontiac Ventura monster to secure his spot in front of Kerby\u2019s Koney Island. We hang out here all week \u2014 we like talking with car people.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\" aria-label=\"advertisement\">\n<div id=\"ad-slot-7103-mi-detroit-C1561-native-article_link-money-autos-features_woodward-2\" class=\"gnt_x_sl gnt_x_al\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-method=\"lazyLoadX\"><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">At the corner of Woodward and Whitemore in downtown Pontiac, a lone, bright orange 1955 Chevy 210 sat in the lush lawn like a four-wheel safety cone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Behind the wheel (and the 350-cube V-8) sat Bruce Larkin, 63. \u201cI took the day off, had breakfast, now I\u2019m just hanging out before I put up my tents,\u201d said the Waterford Township resident and member of the North Oakland Bowtie Club that sets up at this corner each year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/gcdn\/authoring\/authoring-images\/2023\/08\/18\/PDTN\/70619282007-dream-cruise-fri-0818-pontiac-bowtie-club.jpg?width=990&amp;height=556&amp;format=pjpg&amp;auto=webp\" width=\"544\" height=\"306\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cThe Pit Stop food truck over there will open up from 5-8 p.m. for dinner and we\u2019ll get about 20 cars today,\u201d he said. \u201cOn Saturday this whole lot will be packed with probably 100 cars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Further south in Pontiac, M1 Concourse was alive with activity as the car club\u2019s annual Woodward Dream Show celebrates the 70<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0birthday of Corvette this year. The parking lot next to the property\u2019s event center was full of Corvettes staging for a midday photo shoot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cWe have a Corvette from every year that Corvette has been made, from 1953 on,\u201d said M1 CEO Tim McGrane. \u201cWe even have a 1983 Corvette \u2014 one of the rarest Corvettes in existence.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"gnt_em gnt_em_img\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/gcdn\/authoring\/authoring-images\/2023\/08\/18\/PDTN\/70619271007-dream-cruise-fri-0818-m-11983-corvette.jpg?width=660&amp;height=372&amp;fit=crop&amp;format=pjpg&amp;auto=webp\" alt=\"The only surviving 1983 Chevy Corvette on display Friday at the M1 Concourse Dream Show. Just 43 \u2018Vettes were made before Chevy pulled the plug on production, with General Motors choosing to wait until 1984 to introduce its all-new 4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0generation car. All but one of the 1983 Corvettes was crushed \u2014 save for No. 23, which was preserved and now calls the Corvette Museum in Kentucky home.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\" aria-label=\"advertisement\">\n<div id=\"ad-slot-7103-mi-detroit-C1561-native-article_link-money-autos-features_woodward-3\" class=\"gnt_x_sl gnt_x_al\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-method=\"lazyLoadX\" data-x-c=\"2\"><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">M1 managed to get it to the Dream Cruise \u2014 the first time the rare car has ever left Bowling Green. For $25, the public can come by the Dream Show from noon-8 p.m. Friday and all day Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. The 65<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of the Ram Charger is also being celebrated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Werner Meier, 72, worked for GM from 1969-2002 and was instrumental in pulling the Corvette celebration together. \u201cFor our photo shoot with all the cars here, we have eight white Corvettes representing each generation of Corvette.
