Ford\u2019s base F-150 Lightning Pro, for example, started 2022 with a sticker price of $42,000 then ballooned to $59,000, a 40% price hike. Mainstream badges like Kia (the EV6 GT) and Chevy (Blazer SS) are going luxe with $60,000 EVs. The flood of new electrics is key to automaker plans to meet stringent government emissions rules so they don\u2019t get tripped up with big fines like, say,\u00a0<a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"https:\/\/seas.umich.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-08\/Why%20Dodge%20Hellcats%20are%20disappearing%20and%20electric%20muscle%20cars%20are%20coming.pdf\" data-t-l=\":b|e|inline click|${u}\">Stellantis suffered<\/a> in \u201822.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Automakers are hardly neglecting their bread-and-butter internal combustion engine-powered vehicles. They pay the bills for big EV investments and are aimed at the 80% of the market that is non-luxury. Familiar ICE badges coming in 2023 include hot-sellers like the Chevy Colorado, Ford Super Duty pickup, GMC Canyon, Honda Accord, and Ford Mustang.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Here are the new vehicles we expect from automakers in the next 12 months.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\">Acura<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The\u00a0<strong>ZDX<\/strong>, Acura\u2019s first EV, will be built alongside the Cadillac Lyriq EV in Tennessee on GM\u2019s Ultium battery platform. The plug-in model boasts best-in-class, hybrid, 272-horsepower turbo-4 engine.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\">Audi<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Audi\u2019s vast lineup of sedans, SUVs, and e-trons will gain assorted upgrades for 2023. In a nod to Audi\u2019s expanding EV lineup, the singular e-tron SUV will become the range-topping\u00a0<strong>Q8 e-tron and Q8 e-tron Sportback<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 two body-style variants with the same AWD electric drivetrain underneath.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\">BMW<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">BMW\u2019s most talented athlete, the redesigned\u00a0<strong>M2 coupe<\/strong>\u00a0squeezes another 48 horsepower from its high-revving, turbocharged, 3.0-liter, inline-6-cylinder engine. Fresh meat comes in the form of a compact, $30K-something\u00a0<strong>Hornet<\/strong>\u00a0SUV based on the same nimble platform as the Alfa Tonale. The compact ute is distinguished by a 17-inch screen that can rotate to landscape or vertical positions.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\">Ferrari<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Ferrari\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Purosange,<\/strong>\u00a0will drop jaws \u2014 and not just because it\u2019s the Prancing Horse\u2019s first SUV. You\u2019ll hear it coming with a singing, 6.5-liter, 712-pony V-12 \u2014 the brand\u2019s most powerful, naturally-aspirated engine. The SUV will debut with available ActiveGlide 1.2 \u2014 Lincoln&#8217;s hands-free, driver-assistance system.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\">Lotus<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Lotus follows other sportscar makers like Porsche and Lamborghini into the performance SUV space with the China-assembled, 600-horsepower\u00a0<strong>Eletre<\/strong>\u00a0\u201chyper-SUV.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\">Lucid<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The lovely Air sedan set new standards of EV envy, and\u00a0<strong>Gravity<\/strong>\u00a0hopes to do the same for the SUV market.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\">Mazda<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The Zoom-Zoom brand isn\u2019t giving up on its MX-5 Miata sportscar, but Americans want SUVs. So here come the mid-size CX-70 and three-row CX-90 built on the brand\u2019s all-new, longitudinal-engine, rear-wheel-drive-based architecture. X-pect the CX siblings to offer hybrid powertrains.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\">Mercedes<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">EQE and EQS sedans debuted Merc\u2019s sleek new EV lineup, and now come the utes. The\u00a0<strong>EQE\/EQS SUVs<\/strong>\u00a0bring hatchback utility (and third-row seating in the case of the EQS ute), while sharing tech-tastic interiors with their sedan cousins. The gas-fired\u00a0<strong>GLC<\/strong>\u00a0follows its sedan stablemate with a new, 2023 design.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\">Polestar\/Volvo<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The\u00a0<strong>Polestar 3<\/strong>\u00a0is the first SUV from Volvo\u2019s EV brand. Like the Polestar 2 sedan before it, the 3 runs on a Google operating system. It may debut Volvo&#8217;s lidar technology \u2014 aimed at beating Tesla to full-self-drive capability. Impreza comes stuffed with the brand\u2019s latest, big-screen infotainment and 182 horsepower for its new RS sport trim.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\">Toyota\/Lexus<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The popular Highlander SUV gets a stretched, three-row,\u00a0<strong>Grand Highlander<\/strong>\u00a0stablemate. Look for its debut at the Chicago Auto Show powered by a hybrid, AWD powertrain. Ugly duckling-turned-swan\u00a0<strong>Prius hybrid<\/strong>\u00a0extends to a plug-in model promising over 35 miles in electric-only mode. The long-awaited, hush-hush Tacoma pickup could steal the show as recently published spy shots have sent the faithful in a frenzy. The battery-powered\u00a0<strong>Lexus<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>RZ<\/strong>\u00a0SUV is aimed at loyal, hybrid customers eager to try all-electric.
