The new, 2024 Ford Mustang will deliver 500 horsepower, making it the most powerful, 5.0-liter V-8 engine in the muscle car\u2019s 60-year history.<\/p>\n

That power will come from the pony car\u2019s track-inspired, 5.0-liter V8-powered Dark Horse, a new badge in the tradition of Mustang\u2019s performance Mach 1, Bullitt and Shelby models that will debut next year alongside the standard EcoBoost and GT models. To put the 500 horsepower in perspective, that\u2019s the same grunt that powered the legendary 1967 7.0-liter V8-powered Ford Mark IV (on display in the Henry Ford) to victory over Ferrari at Le Mans.<\/p>\n

The Dark Horse\u2019s achievement leads a horsepower boost across all three models.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s naturally aspirated awesomeness,\u201d said Ed Krenz, Mustang chief engineer. \u201cEcoBoost fans are also getting a boost in power to make every Mustang more fun to drive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Credit the Dark Horse\u2019s new-found power to modifications to Mustang\u2019s fourth-generation Coyote engine: dual throttle bodies, twin air intakes and forged piston connecting rods out of the supercharged Shelby GT500. The V-8 will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission.<\/p>\n
