Willow Run itself made history during\u00a0the same period\u00a0as Ford Motor Company used its hangars to crank out over 8,000 B-24\u00a0Liberator heavy bombers from 1942-45 as part of US industry&#8217;s \u201cArsenal of Democracy\u201d effort to help win World\u00a0War II.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cEveryone will enjoy this show,\u201d said Yankee Air Museum\u00a0President Kevin Walsh. \u201cThere are cars and planes here that are simply legendary, like an immaculate North American F-86 Sabre jet fighter and \u2014 imagine seeing this \u2014 a General Motors Futurliner, one of only nine in existence.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"gnt_em gnt_em_img\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gannett-cdn.com\/presto\/2021\/06\/12\/PDTN\/cea88bac-2093-4bda-85b5-f0de3c280f75-WingsWheels_fordgt.jpg?width=660&amp;height=440&amp;fit=crop&amp;format=pjpg&amp;auto=webp\" alt=\"Arranged on the ramp of the Yankee Air Museum, the exhibit\u00a0includes the event\u2019s \u201cposter car\u201d Darrin Packard \u2014 a well as rare planes like the single-seat Douglas AD-1 Skyraider and a Grumman C-1 Trader cargo plane.\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"gnt_em_img_ccw gnt_em_img_ccw__cap gnt_em_img_ccw__crd\" data-c-caption=\"Arranged on the ramp of the Yankee Air Museum, the exhibit\u00a0includes the event\u2019s \u201cposter car\u201d Darrin Packard \u2014 a well as rare planes like the single-seat Douglas AD-1 Skyraider and a Grumman C-1 Trader cargo plane.\" data-c-credit=\"Detroit's Invitational Wings And Wheels Show, Detroit's Invitational Wings And Wheels Show\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Arranged on the ramp of the Yankee Air Museum, the exhibit\u00a0includes the event\u2019s \u201cposter car\u201d Darrin Packard \u2014 a well as rare birds like the single-seat Douglas AD-1 Skyraider and a Grumman C-1 Trader cargo plane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The Wings and Wheels committee, which includes ex-GM product guru\u00a0Bob Lutz and\u00a0<a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"https:\/\/yankeeairmuseum.org\/wingsandwheels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|inline click|${u}\">Wings and Wheels<\/a> chairman Peter Deloof, scooped up cars from private owners as well as the GM Heritage Center, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, Stellantis\/Chrysler, Nicola Bulgari Car Collection, and Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cThe vehicles must be totally original, no \u2018resto-mods,\u2019 no lowering kits, no late model alloy wheels,\u201d said Lutz. \u201cWe want cars that were actually common and owned by normal people, so no Pierce Arrows, Marmon 16s or Duesenbergs. We even have a 1932 Ford Model A fuel truck\u00a0in Standard Oil livery.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Owners will be on hand to chat about their toys. Gates open to the public at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, June 13 on the west side of Willow Run.
