It joins staples like Mustang Alley and\u00a0Ferndale’s Lights & Sirens Cruise on the sidelines as cities up and down Woodward have canceled their events scheduled for the Aug.\u00a015 Cruise.<\/p>\n
The exception is the inaugural\u00a0Woodward Dream Show which is\u00a0scheduled to go\u00a0on as planned Aug.13-15 at\u00a0Pontiac’s M1 Concourse, making it a focal point of attention when cruisers and their families gather later this summer.<\/p>\n
Dodge has been a sponsor for Roadkill Nights. Tim Kuniskis, Fiat Chrysler’s global chief of passenger cars \u2014\u00a0and a dedicated cruiser\u00a0\u2014 lamented the cancellation given\u00a0its status as a \u201cmust-attend event for performance enthusiasts for the past five\u00a0years.\u201d<\/p>\n
The rash of cancellations has stoked speculation that the Dream Cruise itself would be canceled, and the Dream Cruise board says it will decide by June 29 whether or not it will give the green light. Civic leaders from Birmingham, Huntington Woods and Ferndale \u2014\u00a0who have long had a love-hate relationship with the world’s biggest traffic jam \u2014 have\u00a0voted for a resolution to cancel the Cruise.<\/div>\n
Cruisers are expected to flock to Woodward whether the Dream Cruise is officially canceled or not. Woodward has already been busy, despite COVD-19 concerns, as cruisers have hit\u00a0the strip and congregated\u00a0with friends who\u00a0have a long winter\u00a0in hibernation.<\/p>\n
RoadKill Nights had turned the heat up a notch by shutting down Woodward north of St. Joseph Mercy Parkland hospital and inviting 140 of the top drag racers from around the country to compete for a $30,000 purse in their street-legal rods. Roadkill Nights also offered\u00a0interactive\u00a0opportunists for fans to take thrill rides in 700-plus horsepower Dodge muscle cars\u00a0around the adjacent M1 Concourse.<\/p>\n
