The extended size model is $3000 above that.\u00a0<span class=\"credit\">(Photo: Cadillac)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable-p-1 p-text\">Cadillac this week announced that its\u00a0all-new, 2021 Escalade land yacht will start at $77,490 when it opens for orders this coming Thursday, April 23.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable-p-2 p-text\">Automakers are leaning on giant, profit-rich SUVs and pickups to tow them out of the COVID-19 sales hole. General Motors Co.&#8217;s Cadillac hopes the iconic Escalade, the best-selling full-size premium utility, will be a tonic for GM&#8217;s luxury line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">The hugely profitable Escalade is also important\u00a0as Caddy retools into\u00a0a battery-powered brand with ambitions to sell mostly EVs by 2030. Premium vehicles have not shared in the love with sales off 60%\u00a0in part due to the premium market&#8217;s higher lease rate and\u00a0customers desire\u00a0for lease extensions. But as shelter-in-place restrictions come off, analysts expect lease shoppers to be back in showrooms,\u00a0and the Escalade \u2014\u00a0based on the same truck chassis as the Chevy Silverado \u2014\u00a0may be in the sweet spot of what they are looking for.<\/p>\n<div id=\"ad-position-66\" class=\"partner-placement partner-spike ad-gray-border ad-notice ad-paramount-inline partner-placement-visible\" data-ad-placement=\"native-article_link\" data-ad-sizes=\"[&quot;fluid&quot;,[3,3], [2,6]]\" data-monetization-id=\"native-article_link\" data-monetization-sizes=\"fluid,3,3,2,6\">\n<p class=\"p-text\">The $77,490 Escalade standard model for 2021 is $1,000 more expensive than the outgoing chariot. Supersize to the\u00a0long wheelbase version and the sticker jumps to\u00a0$80,490. Art leads to innovation as we like to say in the People\u2019s Republic of Brooklyn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">To accommodate Spike&#8217;s New York Knicks pals, the\u00a0rear compartment gains 10 more inches of legroom and 68% more cargo space\u00a0thanks to an extended wheelbase and a lowered floor courtesy of Escalade\u2019s first independent rear suspension.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">Famous\u00a0for its vertical, edgy styling, the 2021 Escalade conforms to current, more horizontal Caddy design cues first seen on Cadillac\u2019s Escala concept car \u2014\u00a0and now smaller utes like the XT4 and XT6.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">The 38-inch glass screen stretches from the driver-side A-pillar across the dash and houses three separate information screens \u2014\u00a0including a\u00a014-inch screen behind the steering wheel that can display\u00a0instrument-gauge view, night vision, navigation and something called &#8220;augmented reality&#8221; which shows live street views to indicate where the driver should turn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">The new behemoth gets a smoother ride thanks to that independent rear suspension as well as standard\u00a0magnetic\u00a0shocks.\u00a0An Air Ride suspension is available, which enables curb-side tricks like kneeling down\u00a02 inches to assist customer entry and exit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">The latest Escalade follows Cadillac\u2019s new marketing convention. The SUV is offered in\u00a0a simple \u201cY\u201d model format starting with standard Luxury trim, then splitting into either Sport or Premium Luxury.
