The Republican committee chair is Michigan\u2019s Dave Camp. R-Midland. And the ranking Democrat? Rep. Sander Levin, D-Royal Oak.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the same Rep. Levin who\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eclectablog.com\/2012\/04\/congressman-sander-levin-asks-irs-to-look-into-tax-filings-of-right-wing-policy-house-mackinac-center-for-public-policy.html\">last year called<\/a>\u00a0for the IRS to engage in a political witch-hunt of the non-profit Mackinac Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn its 2010 IRS Form 990, the Mackinac Center answered \u2018no\u2019 to the question, \u2018Did the organization engage in lobbying activities?\u2019 As described below, I am concerned about the response to this question,\u201d wrote Levin in his letter.<\/p>\n<p>That Mackinac \u2013 a champion of the grassroots tea party movement \u2013 is an outspoken advocate for small government reforms is no secret. Levin\u2019s letter \u2013\u00a0leaked\u00a0to Mackinac\u2019s left-wing rival, Progress Michigan \u2013 was an attempt to intimidate the right-wing think tank and its donors.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Levin will no doubt bring his impartial reputation to the IRS\u2019s attempt to intimidate other conservative non-profits.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Talk about the fox watching the chicken coop.
