Auto show panel makes news and draws a crowd

With only a month to prepare, we succeed in pulling off the auto show’s premier policy panel, sponsored by The News and WJR Radio. A star-studded panel of six, headlined by Rep. Fred Upton and two of the globe’s leading climatologists and covering both sides of the global warming debate, faced off in the gorgeous Georgian Room at the Detroit Athletic Club.

Frank Beckmann, my partner in organization of the event, is a master of ceremonies before a packed audience of 50. Putting this thing together was a 24-7 proposition for the last two weeks, but the 1.5 hours of discussion and questions, I think, added a whole new dimension to a show where government and autos intersect more than ever.
